Lingual (Invisible) Braces

Currently, lingual (invisible) braces are temporarily unavailable at our Doctor Dent clinic in Astana. However, we can resolve your orthodontic concerns using other effective methods: metal, ceramic, or sapphire bracket systems, as well as Spark aligners (USA). Your treatment will be virtually unnoticeable.

When are Lingual Braces Suitable?

Lingual (invisible) braces are attached to the inner (tongue-side) surface of the teeth, making them completely hidden from view. This allows patients to smile and speak freely without anyone noticing the braces. They are particularly effective for certain conditions, such as correcting deep bites.

However, there are certain limitations: severe periodontal disease, low clinical tooth crowns, or temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. The final choice of an orthodontic system is always made by an experienced orthodontist, taking your specific anatomical features into account.

Preparation for Braces Installation

Before starting any orthodontic treatment, it is essential to:

  • Fully treat all caries and eliminate any gum inflammation.
  • Undergo professional oral hygiene.

How are Lingual Braces Installed?

The placement of lingual braces differs significantly from traditional vestibular (outer) braces. For example, systems like Incognito require a high-precision digital scan of every tooth surface to create a custom-fitted structure for each patient. Since the lingual surface of teeth is more complex and varied than the outer surface, precise customization is crucial for both effectiveness and comfort.

Adaptation to Lingual Braces

Initially, you may experience minor discomfort: increased salivation, temporary tongue irritation, or slight changes in pronunciation (specifically with sibilant sounds). The adaptation period typically lasts between 2 to 4 weeks.

Caring for Lingual Braces

Oral hygiene is paramount during treatment. Braces require more time and thoroughness during cleaning. At Doctor Dent, every new patient receives a specialized care kit: orthodontic toothbrushes, interdental brushes, specialized pastes, and rinses designed to clean the areas around the brackets and under the archwire.

Interestingly, lingual braces are less likely to cause gum inflammation, as saliva and the natural movement of the tongue provide a degree of natural self-cleaning.

Treatment Duration

On average, bite correction with invisible braces takes 12 to 18 months, depending on the complexity of the case.
